The Senate Committee on Roads, Transportation and Infrastructure, chaired by Marsabit Senator Mohamed Chute, has conducted an inspection visit to assess the progress of the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern convention centre at Bomas of Kenya.

 

The new international convention facility, to be known as the Bomas of Kenya International Conference Centre, is expected to be completed by September this year. Once complete, it will be the first of its kind in the East African region.

The Senate of Kenya has unveiled four landmark publications set to transform legislative practice and research, offering lawmakers, scholars, and practitioners an authoritative reference on parliamentary processes.

 

Launched with fanfare at Parliament Buildings, the publications provide in-depth analyses of the Senate’s role in resource allocation, mediation, and impeachment proceedings, alongside a comprehensive account of the evolution of its rules since its inaugural sitting in 2013.

The National Assembly has passed the Crops (Amendment) Bill, 2023. The Bill sponsored by Hon. Tandaza Kassim seeks to officially recognize Achiote locally known as "𝘔𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪"as a scheduled crop under the Crops Act No. 16 of 2013 to revitalize the agricultural sector and empower coastal farmers.

The National Assembly has passed the Forest Conservation and Management (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 38 of 2025).

The Bill introduces a robust and forward-looking legal framework aimed at enhancing sustainable forest management, strengthening regulatory oversight, and promoting community participation in conservation efforts.

Legislators underscored that the amendments are designed to respond to emerging realities in forestry, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and the need for accountable governance structures.

The Senate of Kenya invites members of the public and stakeholders to participate in the legislative process by submitting views on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (Senate Bills No. 7 of 2026).

 

The Bill proposes amendments to constitutional and electoral provisions, including restrictions on former county governors seeking elective office within five years of leaving office.

The National Assembly has commenced debate on the Prevention of Livestock and Produce Theft Bill (Senate Bill No. 12 of 2023), a Bill seeking to establish a comprehensive framework to curb persistent livestock theft across the country.

Moving the Bill at Second Reading, North Imenti MP, Hon. Rahim Dawood said the proposed law is long overdue, noting that livestock and produce theft continues to undermine livelihoods, fuel insecurity, and result in loss of lives in affected regions.
