The Budget and Appropriations Committee, chaired by Hon. Samuel Atandi, has engaged the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury, Hon. John Mbadi, Treasury PS, Mr. Chris Kiptoo and DG, Budget and Fiscal Economic Affairs, Mr. Albert Mwenda on the FY 2026/27 Budget Estimates and the Medium-Term Fiscal Framework.

Appearing before the Committee, CS Mbadi defended the fiscal framework anchored on a projected total expenditure of Ksh 4.785 trillion, against total revenue including A-I-A of Ksh 3.629 trillion, resulting in a fiscal deficit of Kshs 1.111 trillion (5.3% of GDP).

The Microfinance Bill, National Assembly Bill No 26 of 2026 which seeks to amend the laws regulating microfinance businesses in Kenya has undergone its first reading in the National Assembly

The Bill sponsored by the Leader of Majority, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah seeks to repeal and replace the existing Microfinance Act, 2006 in a move aimed at aligning the law with the evolving nature of microfinance banking and strengthening consumer protection in the sector.

The National Assembly resumes sittings today, Tuesday 26th May 2026 to a packed agenda with consideration of the Senate Amendments to the Division of Revenue Bill, Finance Bill, 2026 and the 2026/27 Budget Estimates expected to take priority ahead of the 2026/27 financial cycle.
