The Chairperson of the Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee, Hon. Nelson Koech (Belgut), has reaffirmed Parliament's commitment to strengthening Kenya's bilateral relations with the Republic of Poland following a consultative meeting with H.E. Marcin Kubiak, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Kenya, who paid a courtesy call on the Chairperson at the Parliament Buildings.

The meeting underscored the growing partnership between Kenya and Poland, with discussions focusing on enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, expanding bilateral cooperation, and fostering stronger institutional ties between the legislatures of the two countries.

Among the key issues discussed was the planned visit to Kenya by Professor Paweł Kowal, the Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Polish Parliament, expected in mid-November. The visit is expected to offer both countries an opportunity to explore additional areas of collaboration, particularly in parliamentary engagement, foreign relations, and mutual development interests.

The two leaders also discussed the forthcoming visit by Members of the Parliamentary Committee on UNESCO World Heritage and Historical Monuments from Poland, who are expected to travel to Kenya in October. The visit is expected to strengthen cooperation in preserving cultural heritage and historical monuments, as well as in other areas of shared interest.

Ambassador Kubiak, who has been serving in Kenya since January of this year, further briefed Hon. Koech on the activities of the Polish-Kenyan Friendship Group, established in June 2024 to promote humanitarian and development initiatives in Kenya. He noted that the group held a meeting in July to discuss ways to facilitate the work of Polish non-governmental organizations operating in Kenya and to identify the support needed to enhance their impact.

The Ambassador further proposed establishing a similar parliamentary friendship group in Kenya to complement ongoing diplomatic efforts and deepen collaboration between the two countries through sustained parliamentary engagement.

Welcoming the proposals, Hon. Koech reiterated the importance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy as a key pillar for advancing bilateral relations and promoting shared interests between Kenya and Poland.

“I appreciate that you want us to enhance parliamentary democracy between the two countries. We will continue to do so because the globe has become very dynamic, and I look forward to our enhancing parliamentary and trade diplomacy. Any assistance you may need to strengthen the relationship between these two countries, particularly from Parliament, I want to assure you that we will support,” said Hon. Koech.
