The Senate Standing Committee on Education, Chaired by Sen. Betty Montet, today continued its nationwide inquiry into the implementation of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) by meeting H.E. Andrew Katuu Mwadime, Governor of Taita Taveta County, and his County Executive Team at Parliament Buildings, Nairobi.

The government has defended its handling of missing children cases, telling Senators that existing child protection and law enforcement systems are working in tandem even as lawmakers questioned data inconsistencies, staffing shortages and delays in establishing a unified national database.

 

The inquiry followed a Statement sought by Sen Hamida Kibwana on the floor of the Senate over what she described as the alarming rise in cases of missing children across the country.

​The Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations today held a meeting with Vihiga County Governor Wilberforce Otichillo to scrutinize the governance, operations, and financial autonomy of the county’s municipalities.

 

This follows recent findings by the Senate County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee, which revealed that multiple municipalities across the country have been granted charters but remain un-operationalized due to a lack of autonomy from county executives.
