Senators have questioned the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over the impact of multiple taxes on fuel prices, with some lawmakers calling for tax reductions and the suspension of certain levies to ease the cost of living burden on Kenyans.

 

Appearing before the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, KRA officials defended the current petroleum taxation framework while outlining the agency’s role in fuel imports, customs administration and revenue collection.

 

Social Protection Committee inspects children’s court, remand home in Kilifi County as it seeks to address child welfare issues

A delegation of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Social Protection that visited Kilifi County last week called on improved Child Protection and Welfare services in the region. 

Led by the Committee’s Vice Chairperson Hon. Hillary Kosgei, the delegation of MPs first toured the Kilifi Children’s Court to ascertain the state of the facility, as well as the quality of services delivered.

The Microfinance Bill, National Assembly Bill No 26 of 2026 which seeks to amend the laws regulating microfinance businesses in Kenya has undergone its first reading in the National Assembly

The Bill sponsored by the Leader of Majority, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah seeks to repeal and replace the existing Microfinance Act, 2006 in a move aimed at aligning the law with the evolving nature of microfinance banking and strengthening consumer protection in the sector.
